Vlaicu Ionescu

1.     FALSE INTERPRETATIONS FOUND ON THE INTERNET IN 2001

[The following material was published on Vlaicu Ionescu’s website in September 2001.]

A warning from Professor Vlaicu Ionescu, president of the I.C.N.S. (International Center of Nostradamian Studies):

It was to be expected. After each spectacular event several “experts” on Nostradamus pretend to have found the quatrains that predicted the respective event.  It was to be expected for fake interpretations to proliferate, especially after the invention of the Internet and the abundance of recent Nostradamian books, that are not only ridiculously naïve and superficial, but most of them directly dishonest.
And dishonest are all the interpretations circulated lately through the Internet.  Here is one of them:

In the year of the new century and nine months
From the sky will come a great king of Terror
The sky will burn at forty-five degree
Fire approaches the new city

  The author of this forgery has taken two verses from the famous quatrain X-72 on which many ”specialists” already broke their neck before August 12, 1999, the date of the solar eclipse, mentioned in this quatrain, a day for which they predicted all kinds of catastrophes, including the fall of an asteroid that would destroy Paris.  I already clarified this quatrain, together with its twin V-41, in my book of 1993, Les Dernières Victoires de Nostradamus.[1] I specified in my book that these quatrains predict the birth of the future king of France and no catastrophes.
Not only were these two verses taken from quatrain X-72 and combined with two verses from quatrain VI-97, but they are shamelessly modified to fit their intentions.  Here is the correct original French text and Edgar Leoni's translation of quatrain X-72’s first two verses[2]:

L’an mil neuf cent nonante neuf sept mois,
Du ciel viendra un grand roy d’effrayeur

The year 1999 and seven months
From the sky will come a great king of terror:

As for the quatrain VI-97 from which the two other verses are taken (the first two of VI-97) it was already clarified in my book of 1976, Le Message de Nostradamus sur l’Ère Prolétaire (Dervy, Paris), as referring to the Anglo-American raids on oil industries of Ploiesti, Romania[3]. Here is the correct original French text and Edgar Leoni's translation of quatrain VI-97 first two verses:

Cinq et quarante degrez ciel bruslera,
Feu approcher de la grand cite neuve

At forty-five degree the sky will burn,
Fire to approach the great new city:[4]

As anybody can see, New York is on the 41° parallel and it is Ploiesti which is on the 45° parallel.  With this occasion Bucharest was also bombed and it is Bucharest “the great new city” (and not the “new city”!) since it became capital of the country only after 1660, being the most recent capital of Europe.
There is also the quatrain I-87, which is also clarified in my books of 1976[5] and 1987[6] as referring to the Ploiesti air strike and to the landing in Normandy.  On the Internet, it suffered some modifications and is applied to the same disaster of New York.
We give the reader the translation of Leoni’s quatrain I-87, which is the only correct English translation of the Nostradamian work.  The reader will immediately recognize the fake versions from the Internet, by comparing them with the original text:

Ennosigee, fire from the center of the earth
Will cause trembling around the new city:
Two great rocks will make war for a long time,
Then Arethusa will redden a new river.[7] 

Some clarifications:
“Ennosigee”, a name of Neptune, the god of the underground layers of oil, the one who strikes the earth with his trident.
“The new city” = Bucharest.
“Two great rocks” = the rocky littorals of England and Normandy.
“Arethusa” = mythical nymph of waters, symbolizing maritime powers.  By metaplasm[8]: ARETH-USA = ARES-U.S.A. the United States in state of war. (Ares, Greek name for Mars)
“A new river” = the English Channel

There are also spread through the Internet a lot of completely forged quatrains, with no connection to the original texts.

We respectfully ask the reader not to pay attention to those kinds of aberrations and find a good Nostradamian text by which he could check and unmask these nonsensical forgeries.
It is clear that, with the method of these irresponsible forgers, they can make Nostradamus say whatever they want.  We pity them, since profanation of a sacred prophetical text is a terrible sin.  And they could fall under the curse expressed in the Latin incantation of the quatrain VI-100:

Let those who read this verse consider it profoundly,            
Let the profane and ignorant herd keep away:
And far away all Astrologers, Idiots and Barbarians,
May he who does otherwise be subject to the sacred rite.[9]

We are sure that the honest reader will wonder if there is indeed in the Nostradamian opus a quatrain, which could be logically attributed to the recent New York disaster.  Our response is affirmative, and we promise to publish in the Internet our commentary on this quatrain.  

 2.     VLAICU IONESCU’S SOLUTION OF QUATRAIN V-32: the twin towers attack

[The following material was published on Vlaicu Ionescu’s website in September 2001 and added at the end of the third volume of Ionescu’s Tetralogia Nostradamica, to be published.]

                         V-32[10]
Où tout bon est, tout bien Soleil et Lune
Est abondant, sa ruine s’approche:
Du ciel s’avance vaner ta fortune,
En même état que ta septième roche.

Literal translation:

Where all is good, all beneficial Sun and Moon
Is abundant, your ruin approaches
From the sky it advances to destroy your fortune
In the same state as the seventh rock. 

Commentary

The quatrain speaks about an important financial center, very rich and beneficial for the whole country.

 “Sun and Moon” is used here on two levels of meaning, both of them significant for the theme of the quatrain (convergent amphibology[11]).  First, Sun and Moon are the traditional and alchemical names of gold and silver, symbols for money.  This completes the sense of “where all is good… abundant” and indicates a financial center.
Secondly, Sun and Moon suggest Apollo and Diana[12], which after Greek Mythology were twins, an allusion to the Twin Towers of this financial area.  By the same token, since Apollo and Diana were the offspring of Jupiter and since Jupiter is the symbol of the United States in many quatrains (and Americans named “les joviaux”, the Jupiterians), we have the indication of the country where the financial center is located.

In the second line, the “ruin” of the center is clearly predicted and in the following line it is specified that the fortune of this area will be destroyed “from the sky”, meaning by an air strike.

The last line is a historical metaphor.  The seventh hill of ancient Rome was the Capitoline hill with the Tarpeian Rock[13], a deep, steep precipice, where those who lost their power or were condemned as criminals were thrown down with all their belongings.  This image of Dantesque Inferno evokes the scenes of the collapsed buildings of the World Trade Center.

The quatrain also alludes to the old Roman saying: “Whoever arrives at the Capitol, the Tarpeian Rock is near to him.”  This is a general warning for the great powers which do not realize how vulnerable they could be, being too proud of their financial and military forces. 

Dating of the prophecy by the Number and Construction of the quatrain 

I showed several times in my works how Nostradamus indicates the date of an event when he is not using planetary positions.  In our case, as in many others, the number of the quatrain and its construction could give interesting suggestions.
The century V (the 5th collection of 100 quatrains) could signify the 5th century (100 of years) after the 16th century (in which the prophecy was made), which is the 21st century.
The number of the quatrain (from the beginning of the prophecy) is 432, whose sum of digits is 4+3+2=9, indicates the 9th month.
Finally, the number of words of the quatrain is 29 and 2+9=11, which indicate the day: September 11, the date of the event.

Dating of the prophecy with Planetary Positions

In his quatrains, Nostradamus dated some events using planetary positions. Ionescu identified Quatrain I-50[15] as representing the birth of the United States. It describes the July 4, 1776 chart. Sun (supreme authority in a nation) is in water triplicity, Cancer (“De l’aquatique triplicité naistra”), and conjunct two benefics, Jupiter and Venus, and the North Node (all ruled by Moon). This indicates the maritime power of America and its riches. Jupiter is the symbol of the United States in many Nostradamian quatrains. The USA Sibly’s chart Ascendant is in Sagittarius ruled by Jupiter, exalted in Cancer. Day of chart is Thursday which is ruled by Jupiter. George Washington proclaimed the first Thanksgiving holiday (“D’un qui fera le Jeudi pour sa feste”) on the last Thursday of November, when the Sun is in Sagittarius (also mentioned in quatrain X-71[16]). Pluto, about to enter Aquarius, is Master of Tensions in bipolar theme.

Quatrain V-32 describes exact aspects of transiting planets in the September 11, 2001 Attack chart to the USA Sibly chart: Transiting Pluto (death, destruction, ruin) is conjunct Ascendant (USA persona) at 12-degree Sagittarius (“sa ruine s’approche”) and is semisquare its natal position in second house of the nation’s wealth. Transiting Uranus (Ouranos, the starry Sky[17], airplanes) is sesquisquare Jupiter (chart ruler and Nostradamus’s symbol for USA) in seventh house (“Du ciel s’avance vaner ta fortune”). Transiting Neptune is conjunct South Node in second house (financial damage and confusion) and sesquisquare Mars in seventh house of enemies. Transiting Mars, the god of War, is square Midheaven (USA prestige) from the first house.  Nostradamus uses trans-Saturnian planets again (not known in his time) in this quatrain, as demonstrated by Vlaicu Ionescu[18].

3.     MANY INTERPRETATIONS, ONLY ONE SOLUTION

“Despite their apparent obscurity, the Nostradamian texts, their author assures us, have only one meaning. They admit only one solution, and no different interpretations. [19]

Epistle to Henry Second, par. 28:
But the danger of times, O Most Serene King, requires that such secrets should not be bared (manifestez) except in enigmatic sentences, having however, only a single sense and a unique meaning (intelligence), and nothing ambiguous or amphibological inserted”.[20]

Vlaicu Ionescu explained in his books the difference between an interpretation and a solution. For each quatrain, you can find in the Nostradamian literature hundreds of interpretations, but when you find the solution all the interpretations disappear, because the solution is so clear and so perfect in its demonstration. 
To find a true solution of a quatrain, it is always necessary to establish a correspondence between it and an event. Moreover, one must establish an exhaustive correspondence between elements of the quatrain and those of the event. All four lines of the quatrain must be considered with reference to a single event and in the decryption of the Nostradamian message, each expression and each word must be used for interpretation.
In Les Dernières Victoires de Nostradamus, Vlaicu Ionescu writes:
“There can be many, many interpretations for a Nostradamian text, but there is only one solution: the one that stands the test of verification. Its discovery is the only criterion of the validity of the interpreter, all the rest is only literature! … A real solution must establish a correspondence between the quatrain (seen as an organic structure endowed with unity of intention) and an event: each detail of the quatrain must correspond to an aspect of the event. As a whole and each taken separately, the terms of the quatrain must be integrated into its thematic unity, the latter being the expression of the unity of the event.”[21]
The Nostradamian message becomes more intelligible as events approach. The entire meaning of a Nostradamian quatrain can only appear after the described event is fulfilled.
A Nostradamian text can have several interpretations, but it has only one solution, the one that is validated by the accomplishment of the predicted event, and this is its best verification. This is the case with quatrain V-32 decrypted by Ionescu in 1976, 1999, and finally after the event in September 2001. 
Nostradamus says it unequivocally, when he testifies that he expressed himself in enigmatic sentences having only one sense and one meaning. The Prophet tells us again, in the Preface to his Prophecies, that the foreseen facts will be accomplished without any error.

4.     THE EVOLUTION OF VLAICU IONESCU’S INTERPRETATION OF QUATRAIN V-32 

[Section 2 above gave Ionescu’s Solution in September 2001 to Quatrain V-32, at which he arrived after successive interpretations in 1976, 1993 and 1999. All four complete the meaning of the quatrain. Below are excerpts of Ionescu’s interpretations before September 11, 2001.]

Interpretation in Le Message de Nostradamus sur l'Ère Prolétaire, 1976[22] 

...We therefore make it our duty to warn this country which we love so much, by the following Nostradamian quatrain, that we would so much wish that it had not been written for America or, at least, that its words had been considered for a very distant future ...
The term seventh rock is an allusion to the Tarpeian Rock, one of the seven hills of Rome. According to the very correct observation of Le Pelletier[23], Those of Mont Tarpée (III-96) are for Nostradamus the demagogues and the republicans in general, by allusion to the Tarpeian Rock from which the condemned to death were thrown, at the time of the Roman republic. It is therefore one of the historical metaphors, by which Nostradamus compares future situations to situations of the past. The comparison with Republican Rome is not likely to reassure us as to the destiny of the United States, admitting that it is to this country that Nostradamus refers.
In any case Nostradamus speaks of a republic, of great wealth, which will be ruined by causes similar to those of republican ancient Rome. Although we do not see to what other republic he can allude, if not to the American state, it would please us that we were at least mistaken. Even considered as a general consideration, the question is a warning about the vanity of material values and the inevitable end of powers built on quantity, on accumulation ... Nostradamus's allusion to the ruin of Republican Rome, which once dominated the world, encourages us to meditate.

Interpretation in Les Dernières Victoires de Nostradamus, 1993[24]

M.-T.B.: Is the United States the only country that the Prophet defines in this way, emphasizing material wealth?
V.I.: This abundance of gold and silver is the key indication of America. We find it in another quatrain (V-32), which concerns the future. This time, gold and silver are replaced by their traditional counterparts: the Sun and the Moon…

The expression “seventh rock” alludes both to the seventh hill of Rome (the Capitoline Hill on which stands the temple of Jupiter Capitoline) and to the Tarpeian Rock, located not far from the Capitol and from which criminals were thrown down. The old proverb, "the Tarpeian rock is close to the Capitol" meant: when one is at the height of power, the fall is imminent! Another expression “From the sky it advances”, seems enigmatic. It is first reminiscent of the images of the Apocalypse where the avenging angel comes to launch the tribulations of sinful humanity. But it also evokes certain planetary transits to the birth sky of America, which can, by their dissonances, bring a serious economic depression: financial crisis or banking crash. The current prognoses of specialists espouse this pessimistic conception of the deterioration of the American economy.
In the third line, the Prophet abandons the third person to address America directly, saying "the planetary gods of heaven (in mythology, the gods of heaven were Uranus, Saturn and Jupiter) will winnow (destroy) your fortune."
In the literal sense, to winnow means to shake the grain by means of a sieve, and, in popular language, to tire excessively. Following the origin of the Latin "vanus" (empty of content), or "vanitas" (lack of purpose or meaning), to winnow your fortune becomes: "to empty and exhaust your fortune"…
An important passage of the Epistle, par. 56 also underlines certain harmful influences (concentrated in New York, a city indicated by the Prophet as another Little Mesopotamia—"exigue Mesopotamie”) which will lead to the loss of prestige of this country by its distance from the spiritual bases of the founding fathers of its Constitution.

Interpretation in Nostradamus, Epistola catre Henric II, 1999[25]

After the failure of the communist experiment, proletarianization will be accomplished not by revolution, but by an "evolution of the species", by a mutation, perhaps fatal during this finale of Kali Yuga[26], and, in the case of America (which will certainly be imitated), through abuse of liberty…
The gold and silver of quatrain VIII-14, which we have attributed to President Clinton, are here replaced by their traditional symbols: the Sun and the Moon. We also find two allusions to Jupiter (dominant of the United States in the Nostradamian texts). It is the same Jupiter of the text of the Epistle par. 56: robbing Jupiter of all his honors and dignities. The first allusion is in the expression: from the sky it advances, because, according to mythology, after the reversal of Saturn, the three brothers Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto shared the world, the first taking the sky, the second the seas and the third hell. Nostradamus therefore tells us that there will be a time when even Jupiter, the god of the sky (and thunders!) and ruler of America, will be against it.
The second allusion is in the expression the seventh rock. This is the Tarpeian rock of Mount Capitoline, where the temple of Capitoline Jupiter is built. From this rock criminals were thrown in Roman times. There is also a Latin proverb, very appropriate here: the Capitol is not far from the Tarpeian Rock! which means: to those who have arrived too high, the fall is near....
There is therefore an implicit parallel between the Capitol in Rome, a symbol of Roman power, and the Capitol in Washington.

CONCLUSION

Professor Ionescu, using his knowledge of history, mythology, astrology, numerology, cyclology, established figures of Nostradamian occultation and his new revolutionary method of decryption based on alchemy (the “language of the birds”) partially interpreted quatrain V-32 in 1976 and warned of a future threatening event. More elements of the interpretation became intelligible in 1999 as the event approached, and finally in 2001, after the event was fulfilled, its entire meaning was revealed. These interpretations did not contradict each other, but brought the interpretation closer to completion. 
A correspondence between all the elements of the quatrain and those of the event was established. All four lines of the quatrain, all words, all expressions were connected to this event and together created a solution for the quatrain, clarifying Nostradamus’s warning message.
